When you’re planning a small wedding, you are looking for ways to save money. Because of this, you may not be planning to go all out with the catering and flowers.
Fortunately, you don’t need an elaborate plan to have a beautiful wedding and reception. If you’re willing to do a little work, you can handle many of the services you would pay for. Here are two simple ways to cut your wedding expenses.
Arrange your own flowers. You can save a ton by doing your own flowers instead of hiring a florist. You can learn all you need to know about arranging flowers and making bouquets from YouTube, particularly if you have a good eye, and want simple bouquets. Design the bouquets and arrangements ahead of time, so you know exactly what to buy. Be sure to choose flowers that will be in season to save the most money and make the job easier. Then, head to your local flower market the day before your wedding and buy in bulk.
Showcase your cake. When you ask a baker to create a traditional wedding cake, much of the cost is in the way the cake is showcased, including the decoration and setup. If you’re having a small wedding, consider hiring a baker to make a simple tiered cake, and do the setup and showcasing yourself. Set up a table with a cloth and tulle table skirt for your cake. Use an elegant crystal cake stand, and a simple topper or fresh flowers to crown the cake. This can save hundreds over full bakery services. If you don’t own a crystal cake stand, rent one from a local party supply store. Or, consider asking a family member to purchase one for you as a wedding gift.
By simply taking on these two aspects of your reception, you can ensure your wedding doesn’t break the bank.
